Every year when I start hearing the commercials for Fire Safety Month, I try to make a conscious effort to do a little more thorough check of the Fire Safety situation around the house. This year, I get to help you to do the same and I've got some fun new smoke alarm products from First Alert Canada to show you as well to make it a little more interesting.
Really. Fun and interesting smoke alarms. That's a thing now. These aren't your same old round puck smoke alarms!
But first, let's look at the current fire safety situation in my own home. Just for fun.
Well, we have a few smoke alarms here and there, so that's a start. But we also have a lot of this:
and this:
We have a lot of smoke alarm mounting hardware, without the actual alarms. Sometimes multiple times in the same room. I know this is an old house so some of this is bound to happen, but really, what's going on in here?
And this!
Yup, that was set up in November of 2004 and then never touched again.
All these things have been like this since we moved in 2 years ago and it's high time we get things set up properly.
Let's take a look at the Designer Series Alarm first.
This one is really neat. It's actually a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector in one! And it's so small and sleek too!
I love that it's got all that high tech safety goodness all wrapped up into one little package. It really saves your walls from a lot of damage and keeps your decor as the main focus.
It even talks to you! It will tell you whether it's alerting you to a potential smoke/fire hazard or if it has detected carbon monoxide AND you can program it to tell you which room of your home the issue was detected in. It's the stuff of the future, I'm telling you.
Next, let's look at the brand new Atom Alarm.
This is First Alert Canada's brand new state of the art smoke detector and it will be available in Canadian Tire, Lowes, and Walmart stores in just a few weeks. Keep reading! There will be a chance for you to win one of these to try out for yourself at the end of this post!
Seriously, you've never seen anything like this alarm before.
It's got all the latest technology in smoke detection and it's just a little bigger than a speck.
OK, a little bigger than that, but you get what I mean.
I'm sure you've heard that you really should have a lot of these things around your house for optimum fire safety, but that can really mess with your style sometimes. Now you can have these good-looking little guys in every room and you'll hardly even notice them at all.
We realized that the master bedroom was missing an alarm, so we gave it the place of honor in my (soon to be) favorite room of the house.
We placed it in an area that wasn't considered "dead air" according the package directions and you can see it really is so much better to live with than traditional smoke alarms.
So are you ready to get into the Fire Safety swing of things with me next month?
First of all, I made up this easy to follow little printable for you (and me!) to use to see where you might be able to make some improvements in the fire safety situation in your house.
Just click here to get the list so you can print it out.
If you have kids at home, go over the list with them and have them help you to find if you're up to standard in all of these little areas. Look at that! You're getting your home more fire safe and you're teaching the next generation all about proper fire safety practices too! Look at you go!
